A 350-acre Community Forest (CF) is being established in Poestenkill, NY by the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance (RPA). The CF will provide recreational access for local communities and visitors, serve as a demonstration area of best management practices for forest stewardship, and provide other educational programs for adults and children. The RPA has invited SMBA to utilize the Forest by hosting educational programs such as trail building workshops & mountain bike skills clinics. SMBA has teamed with RPA to develop a multi-use trail system and mountain bikes skills area in the CF. In the process, we’ll promote sustainable trail building techniques and responsible mountain biking skills by hosting a series of clinics and hands-on trail building workshops. Part of the plan for the Community Forest includes construction of a MTB skills park!!
Recently, SMBA and RPA partnered with Broadway Bicycle Co. to apply for the Specialized Community Grant to help fund the CF project. We were awarded the grant and started breaking ground at the CF in 2015!
