A Message From the SMBA Pittstown Trail Rep

I hope everyone is enjoying their winter (or lack there of). I just wanted to take a minute and update everyone on what’s happening in Pittstown State Forest.

Conditions are looking good for an early and long riding season this year! The trails in Pittstown SF are shaping up nicely. The lower trails are still a bit wet & soft, but the upper trails are looking good. If the current weather pattern continues the trails should be ready to ride soon! I’m planning to host a regular weekly ride in Pittstown this year. Not sure which day we’ll be doing it (leaning towards Thursdays). If you’re interested let me know which day of the week would work better for you.

SMBA has a lot of projects on tap in Pittstown SF for 2012. We will be finishing the construction of the Red Pine trail, which was started during the IMBA event last year. We have also been given approval to build 2 more new trails!! These trails have been scouted, flagged, and are ready to cut! The new trails will roll through some fantastic terrain, and add multiple different loop options. Exciting Stuff!!

We’ll be holding several trail work days throughout the year (see schedule below). We have plenty of tools for everyone and we’ll be bringing in food & drinks for before & after. We sincerely appreciate all the volunteers that come out and help with the trail work. The work being done in Pittstown would not be possible without the efforts of you guys! Thank You!!

Pittstown SF Trail Days (9am – 1pm)
Sunday 4/29
Sunday 7/8
Sunday 8/12
Sunday 9/30

In addition to the trail days, we’ll also be doing a bunch of impromptu work days here and there. If you would like to get involved with the work days let me know and I’ll keep you posted anytime we’ll be heading out there.

Last year SMBA got things started in Pittstown, and we got a lot done in a short period of time (even with all the rain we had). Thanks to everyone who came out and helped us get the ball rolling!! This year we’re looking to keep the momentum going and expand upon the already great trail system in Pittstown!! So come on out, have some fun, and help build some quality trails!!

Thanks,
Chris Cavanaugh
